Dawahproject Surinam

The Messenger of Allaah Description: salla said:

“Allaah has creatures which He created to assist with the needs of the people and people come to them whenever they are in need of something;
they are the ones who will be protected against the punishment of Allaah.”
At-Tabaraanee

As salaamu ‘alaykum dear Muslims,

We have decided with a few other Muslims (reverts), to set up a project in Suriname (South-America) which will benefit many people inshaa Allaah and through which we want to convert knowledge into deeds as well as take action to spread knowledge.

Through this site we would like to keep you informed about how the project is developing. I am a Dutch Muslimah who reverted to Islaam in 1986 through Surinam Muslims.
I went to Suriname for the first time in 2009 and was deeply impressed by the overwhelming nature, the knowledge people have of the plants and herbs and how people apply these as remedies.

Another thing that made an impression on me was the fact that there are mosques,
but no powerful lectures, da’wah, few books and a lot of disunity. Sometimes mosques are closed or almost empty because there is no Imaam or djamaa’ah. When I saw the tears of the sisters who were so grateful for the few lectures I had given there and who said they needed someone to help them further, it left something behind in my heart which I could feel for the rest of the year.

There is a great deal to do, both in Suriname and in other parts of the world, but Suriname and the other countries in South-America seem to be forgotten by the people who work for the Ummah. I have visited many countries, and never thought about Suriname, even though a large number of Muslims of Indonesian, African and Indian descent live there.

The good thing about Suriname (for us) is that people there speak Dutch just like we do and are not preoccupied by internet, television, films, play station etc. which gives people more time for personal contact and time for each other. One of the greatest causes for the suffering of our Ummah (in Europe) is the failure to give others our time and attention.

The idea is to establish a study centre with a social meeting centre next to it.
Many Deen books in English and Dutch (all of which are completely reliable) will be able to be used in the study centre and lectures and courses will be able to be given there.
The meeting centre will serve for people to get together, help each other and lend each other an attentive ear. This is very important as we see in the Hadeeth of Abu Hurairah Description: ratheya who narrated that the Messenger of Description: salla said:

“He who alleviates the suffering of a brother, Allaah will alleviate his suffering on the day of judgment and he who finds relief for one who is hard pressed, Allaah will make things easy for him in this world and in the hereafter. He who protects a Muslim, Allaah will protect him in this world and the hereafter. Allaah will help His servant just as long as the servant helps his brother.”
Saheeh Muslim

Our own mosque (very simple and sober) close to the study centre and the social meeting centre is another big wish included in the plans. Furthermore, we want to offer help to the Muslims who are experiencing problems from a psychological and emotional point of view and help people through the da’wah, the Qur’aan, the Sunnah and herbs.

We are therefore looking for brothers and sisters who are willing to commit themselves in various ways, selflessly and in a loving and humble manner,
and who poses the skills to teach,
perform da’wah and work with children/young people.

We are aiming at the adult Muslims and I personally would particularly like to work with young people because I have 15 years of experience with them. The knowledge that we spread will be in strict accordance with the Qur’aan, the authentic Sunnah and the understanding of the companions. We are looking for people who have knowledge of biological agriculture and horticulture, eastern martial-arts, the Arabic language,
the Qur’aan, aqeedah, fiqh, ahadeeth etc.

If you are sincerely interested you can send an email to:

dawahprojectsuriname@hotmail.com
or
um_sadjaad@hotmail.com

We also want to teach children in the study centre and the mosque about Allaah and what He has revealed about Himself, who the Prophet Description: salla is and what his sunnah comprises of, about the Prophets and the trials of life. We want the children to learn this in a loving manner and that the children learn that al-akhlaaq (character, good behaviour) is most important. This means: that we want to give them an understanding of nature, herbs, how to deal with animals and self-defense which enables them to develop strength both spiritually and physically. After all, we can find all of this in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah. Description: salla

We are looking for people who would like to donate 20 pound a month to pay for a teacher who can teach the children to memorize the Qur’aan.
We will then pay the teacher 250 euro’s a month.

All around us, we see that Muslims want to attain knowledge, but we do not see enough implementation of this knowledge. We should point out to each other that we must perform deeds that benefit our souls after we have been cut off from this world.

More and more people keep bringing in books, donating money, and committing to making a monthly donation to enable this project to take off.
Dear people, we still have a long way to go!
We welcome all types of help.
You can also give your own books which we will also take to Suriname.
Over the coming period we want to send a few boxes out every month inshaa Allaah.

Abu Musaa Al-Ash’aarie Description: ratheya narrated that the Messenger of Allaah Description: salla was asked about what kind of fighting is in the cause of Allaah? He said:

“He who fights so that Allaah’s word (Islaam) should be superior,
then he fights in Allaah’s cause.”
Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim

Zaid bin Khaalid Al-Djuhanie Description: ratheya narrated that the Messenger of AllaahDescription: salla said:

“Anybody who equips a warrior (who is going to fight) in the way of Allaah, is like one who actually fights. And anybody who looks after his family in his absence is also like the one who actually fights.”
Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree Description: ratheya has narrated in a hadeeth from the Saheehain that people asked the Messenger of Allaah who was the best person and he Description: salla said:

“The one who fights in the cause of Allaah with his health and with his life.”

Dear brother, dear sister, which group do you want to belong to? Those who fight in the cause of Allaah are the Mudjaahideen and they have higher ranks with Allaah than those who do not fight on His path. And the ranks of the Mudjaahideen in the hereafter are almost as high as those of the Prophets and Messengers! What do we wish for?
Let us join our forces and undertake this matter as a solid building.

Abu Idrees Al-Khawlaanee Description: ratheya narrated that Mu’aadh ibn Djabal Description: ratheya said:
“Rejoice! I heard the Messenger of Allaah Description: salla say:

“Allaah, the Exalted says: My love is due to those who love one another for My sake, meet one another for My sake, visit one another for My sake and spend in charity for My sake.”
 Maalik-Saheeh

Dear people, invest in your souls now that you are still alive. The books which are purchased with your money or the building of an Islamic centre with your money,
will be a ‘sadaqah djaariyah’ for you as we see in the hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah Description: ratheya wherein the Messenger of Allaah Description: salla said:

“The good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge which he learned and then spread, a righteous son whom he leaves behind, a copy of the Qur’aan that he leaves as a legacy, a mosque that he built, a house that he built for wayfarers,
a canal that he dug or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.”
Hadeeth Hasan according to al-Albaanee in: Saheeh Ibn Maadjah

Sadaqah djaariyah could be building a mosque, purchasing Mushafs
(copies of the Qur’aan) to place in mosques or designing a house from which the profits are spent on poor people, orphans, students of knowledge or building a hospital etc. Sadaqah is not considered sadaqah djaariyah unless it is secured, for example when something is given to the poor which becomes their property: money, food, clothing, medicines etc.
When someone establishes a mosque that is destroyed afterwards, he will receive the full reward according to the hadeeth in which the Messenger of Allaah  Description: salla said:

“Whoever shares in the building of a mosque for the sake of Allaah, even if it is as small as a bird’s nest, Allaah will build for him a house in paradise.”
Ahmad, declared saheeh by shaykh al-Albaanee in Saheeh al-Djaamee

We are in need of Allaah’s blessings more than anything else, especially because we have so many shortcomings, sins and mistakes. The Messenger of Allaah Description: salla said:

“If one gives sadaqah that is equal to one date fruit of the honestly earned money, and Allaah only accepts the honestly earned money,
Allaah will take it in His right (hand) and then enlarge it (the blessings for it) in the same way as anyone of you brings up his foal until it becomes as big as a mountain.”
Saheehain

Ibn Al-Qayyim said:

“Those who are kind towards Allaah’s servants, Allaah will be kind towards them.
Those who are merciful towards them; He will be merciful to them.
Those who do well with them; Allaah will do well with them.
Those who are generous towards them;
Allaah will be generous with respect to them.
Those who give them benefit, Allaah will give them benefit.
Those who cover their faults; Allaah will cover their faults.
Those who do not provide the creation with benefit,
Allaah will not provide them with His favors.
That is why Allaah will treat His creatures - in both this world and the hereafter -
in the same manner as they treat Allaah’s creation.”

Allaah says in Surah Aal-‘Imraan 3: 92:

“By no means shall you attain piety (al-birr), unless you spend of that which you love.”

Dja'far bin Muhammad Description: ratheya advised Sufyaan Ath-Thawree: Description: ratheya

“Deeds of charity become perfect through three qualities:giving it away faster,
seeing it as something insignificant (regardless of the amount) and giving it away in secret.”
Sifaatus-Safwah Volume 2. p: 169 and Hilyatul-Awliyaa. Volume 3. p: 198

Al-Hasan Description: ratheya said:

“In this life the believer is like a prisoner. He tries to buy himself free and even then will still not feel safe (about whether his deeds are accepted from him or not) until he meets Allaah, the Most High, the Most Glorious.”
Djaamee’ ul-‘Uloom wal-Hikaam p: 269

The purpose of setting up this project is TO WORK TOGETHER.

Many Muslims these days have little understanding of the value and the importance of the djamaa’ah. They stay away after disappointment and hurt while ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ud Description: ratheya said:

“You are commanded to obey and to adhere to the djamaa’ah. And that which is difficult in the djamaa’ah is better than what is easy on its own.”

Rasoolullaah Description: salla said in a saheeh hadeeth (according shaykh al-Albaanee):

“Al-djamaa’ah tur-rahmah” (being at one with each other) is a mercy;
a rahmah. And splitting up; being divided, is a punishment.”

The word ‘djamaa’ah’ comes from ‘idjtimaa’ which means ‘coming together’; ‘unity’.
The djamaa’ah is a group which is together because of a certain task.
‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ud Description: ratheya narrated the following:

“The djamaa’ah is that which approves of the truth even if it concerns only one person.”

When the Messenger of Allaah Description: salla was asked about the aayah in Surah Al-Maa’idah
5: 105:

"O you who have believed, upon you is (responsibility for) yourselves.
Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided."
he said:

“No, indeed, order the good and forbid the evil until you see stinginess being obeyed, and desires being followed, and this world being preferred
(over the next), and each person being deluded by his own opinions.
Then take care of yourself and leave the common people.
For indeed, after you there will be days of patience, where patience will be like holding on to hot coals. Whoever is able to do this will have the reward of fifty people that do like him.” They asked:
“O Rasoolullaah,
Description: salla the reward of fifty of them?”
He replied: The reward of fifty of you.”
Declared saheeh by shaykh al-Albaanee in as-Saheehah, 957
